The system sucks
As we all know in Romania, the system doesn't work. Last night I went to Metro. But I feel the need to add an extra example.
The one think that made me mad, were the fruits :). Yes they had about 4-5 types of apples, all nice and round and big...very good looking. But on the label you could see there were from, Greece, Italy and even New Zealand; not even ONE type from Romania.
I think that is OUTRAGEOUS. How can you import apples from NEW ZEALAND(on the other side of the earth), when you have the perfect natural conditions to produce apples here, across the street to your supermarket???
As a kind I remember eating Romanian apples all the time, just as big and nice as those from Metro, I remember seeing endless planes of apple trees. What the heck happened?
Someone tried to explain: There is a missing link between fruit producers and supermarket chains. The missing link is a dedicated place (system) where supermarkets can provide local fruits that meet all their quality standards in huge quantities they need. There's a need for a EN GROSS selling solution for agriculture producers.
Another reason, would be that the lands are divided in small areas, that produces small amount of fruits and vegetables and those can only be sold at a small local level (not nation's wide).
Whatever the reasons, the result is just unbelievable. In a country that is 40% agriculture, the economical focus is on the wrong direction.
